Eliminating Vendor Fatigue: A Resort IT Turnaround in Coorg
How 26 years of engineering discipline unified a fragmented hotel network infrastructure, restoring 100% guest satisfaction.
The Challenge: Systemic Failure & Finger-Pointing
A luxury 50-acre resort in Madikeri, Coorg, was facing severe operational downtime. They had hired three different tech agencies: one for the internet, one for CCTV, and one for their EPABX intercoms.
The result was classic vendor fatigue. The Wi-Fi had massive dead zones due to thick concrete and terrain interference. The IP surveillance cameras dropped offline daily. Whenever the systems crashed, the ISP blamed the cabling vendor, who blamed the hardware supplier. The management was losing revenue and facing poor guest reviews.
The Diagnosis
Upon auditing the site, I identified critical structural flaws:
- Un-Siloed Ecosystems: The networks were colliding. Massive 4K CCTV data traffic was choking the guest Wi-Fi bandwidth on unmanaged switches.
- Poor Splicing: The outdoor fiber optic splicing was poorly weather-proofed by standard electricians, leading to severe signal degradation during Coorg’s heavy monsoons.
- Improper Hardware Placement: Access points were placed for aesthetic convenience rather than RF (Radio Frequency) optimization, causing heavy overlapping interference.
The Solution: One Point of Engineering Authority
I took complete ownership of the project architecture, eliminating the multi-vendor chaos.
- VLAN Segregation: Re-configured their core switches to logically separate Guest Wi-Fi, Management Operations, and IP Surveillance into distinct VLANs, ensuring zero cross-traffic choking.
- Managed Local Integrators: I directed a trusted local cabling team to re-splice the fiber optic backbone using industrial-grade weatherproof IP67 enclosures to survive the Western Ghats climate.
- Wi-Fi 6 & Cloud Telephony: Upgraded the core corridors to a unified Wi-Fi 6 mesh network and migrated their failing analog phones to a robust SIP-based EPABX system.
The Result: 100% Uptime & True Accountability
Within three weeks, the entire 50-acre property was blanketed in high-speed, seamless roaming Wi-Fi. The surveillance grid achieved 100% uptime. Most importantly, the management now had a single point of accountability. If anything went wrong, they made one phone call to me. Through a robust Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC), I now remotely monitor and support their unified hotel network infrastructure, guaranteeing long-term predictability and peace of mind.
