High-Density Academic: Smart Campus Wi-Fi in Mysuru
Modernizing a heritage institution to support concurrent, zero-latency digital learning for 2,000+ students.
The Challenge: Heritage Walls vs. Modern Tech
A prestigious, 50-year-old educational institution in Mysuru decided to upgrade 40 of their legacy classrooms into fully interactive "Smart Classes." They procured high-end interactive digital panels for the professors.
However, the project stalled instantly. The thick stone architecture of the heritage building was completely blocking the existing office-grade Wi-Fi routers. When 60 students in a single classroom opened their laptops for an online test simultaneously, the consumer-grade network collapsed under the high-density request load, causing exam failures and frustration.
The Solution: Enterprise Bandwidth Management
I acted as the consulting engineer to gut the failing setup and architect a true high-density academic network.
- Wi-Fi 6 High-Density Deployment: Installed enterprise-grade Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) Access Points specifically designed for high-density environments. These APs intelligently handle hundreds of concurrent MU-MIMO connections without dropping packets.
- Hardwired Smart Panels: Ran dedicated, shielded Cat6A drops from the core server room directly to the 40 smart interactive panels, ensuring the professors had gigabit speeds that were entirely unaffected by student Wi-Fi traffic.
- Captive Portals & VLANs: Architected a Fortinet SD-WAN firewall system. I created separate, secure VLANs for Students, Faculty, and Administrative Staff, implementing strict bandwidth capping and content filtering to prevent recreational streaming during academic hours.
The Result: 100% Online Exam Uptime
The institution successfully launched all 40 smart classrooms simultaneously with zero network lag. During their first campus-wide digital examination, over 2,000 students logged in concurrently without a single connection timeout. By managing the local cabling teams and deploying strictly enterprise-tier hardware, I future-proofed the college's digital curriculum for the next decade.
